Completing Him: Week 6

Image
The challenge for this week from Women Living Well is to make our husbands' favorite foods. Courtney said to ask our husbands what their favorite meal, dessert, and drink are, but I already know. I've been cooking his food for over 25 years, and I have made his preferences a priority since Day One. Thinking of his likes and dislikes and cooking accordingly shows him that I care about him. I can't imagine fixing an entire meal of foods he doesn't like and saying "Tough luck, Big Boy!" ;) Cooking to suit your husband is one of the easiest things you can do to please him. Wes is picky, so it hasn't always been easy to find recipes he likes, but I've learned to adapt recipes to suit his tastes, and we've both been happy. Here's Courtney's instruction for this week: Make your husband a priority. Ask him what his favorite dinner, dessert and drink are. Be sure to serve him all three one night this week. Bonus: cook his favorite dishes all

Completing Him: Week 5

This week's Completing Him Challenge over at Women Living Well is to make our husband's priorities for us our priorities: Make a list of 5 things you currently do and ask your husband to prioritize them for you of what is important to him. For example - a clean home, home cooked dinner, coupon clipping, service at church, having friends over for dinner, watching/doing sports with him, etc. When I asked Wes for his priorities for me, he went blank. I asked him to just tell me what were the most important things to him for me to do each day. He was still blank! Then he said, "Honey, we just live. We do what needs to be done each day, and we give and take together . . . we just live." I was amazed as I realized that that statement sums up our marriage! We each strive to be "submitting yourselves one to another" as it says in Ephesians 5:21. After 25 years of marriage, I can say that my husband has always done his best to make me happy, and we have a very

The Week in Words

I'm participating in The Week in Words , hosted by Barbara of Stray Thoughts : Welcome to The Week In Words, where we share quotes from the last week’s reading. If something you read this past week  inspired you, caused you to laugh, cry, think, dream, or just resonated with you in some way, please share it with us, attributing it to its source, which can be a book, newspaper, blog, Facebook — anything that you read . I receive a little quote each day through my email via This Day's Thought . This one spoke to me, as I've been pondering lately the things I read, watch, and think about, and God's priorities for me in these areas: What are you saving in your memory bin as food for the restless soul when the winter of life comes?  Unknown This one fits in nicely with my recent reading in A Woman After God's Own Heart concerning the home: Your home can be a place for dying or living, for wilting or blooming, for anxiety or peace, for discourag

Are You Bored?

I found a book recently that caught my attention, The Country Life Book of Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother . I've always had an interest in Britain's royal family, and I've especially admired the Queen Mother (who is now deceased) because of her charm, warmth, and dignity, so this book sparked my interest right away. As I was reading about her early life, the author was relating information about the Queen Mother's own mother, pictured on the right in 1923, who was apparently quite an amazing woman. She used to tell her children, "Life is for living and working at. If you find anything or anybody a bore, the fault is in yourself." What a lesson to us in these days! The Queen Mother was born in 1900, 110 years ago, yet her mother's words are still applicable today. If I find life boring, or the people around me boring, it's not their fault; it is mine! Are you bored today? Get up and live! Work at finding interesting things

By far the most helpful book I've been reading, besides my Bible, is A Woman After God's Own Heart® by Elizabeth George. I believe that the Lord is using some of the things I'm learning from this book to change my heart, and by changing my heart, He is changing my actions. If you're a Christian woman and have not read this book, do yourself a favor and read it. At least check it out of the library. You need to read it! I have a couple of quotes from A Woman After

Completing Him: Week 4

I've been participating in Women Living Well 's Completing Him Summer Challenge . I'm here to tell you, this challenge has been huge for me! Wes and I have a great relationship - always have - but taking the time to remember our courtship, wedding vows, and now praying specific things for him each day has really focused my thoughts on him and the things that I love about him. Which leads to this week's challenge : This weeks Marriage challenge is: Admire Your Husband. If you are a blogger write a post all about your husband and what you admire in him and then show it to him! He will smile! The things I admire about Wes: 1. He is a strong leader. 2. He's also a good follower. He knows how to place himself under the proper authorities and support them. I heard it said once that a strong leader is a strong follower; Wes is a great example of that. 3. He is patient with me. I have a temper, I'm quite often lazy, and I chatter a lot . . . but he is always p
