Was it Productive or Not?

I had grand intentions for today. I got up and did my exercising, fixed breakfast, showered and dressed for the day. Then I ran errands and did my grocery shopping. When I got home, I was starved. Wes likes dinner in the middle of the day now, so I started cooking at 2:30. We ate at 3:30. At about 4:00 I went upstairs to do some work while Andrew and Beth did the dishes, but somewhere between the kitchen and the bedroom, I realized I was bushed, so I lay down to take a nap. Hmmmm. Wes woke me at 5:30, but I didn't come out of the fog till just before 6. Church is at 7:30. So. This day is pretty much shot. I guess it's a diabetic thing. There are some days that I am full of energy, then there will be a day that I start out strong and fizzle out by mid-afternoon. I do know that I got extra hungry, although I kept a good eye on my blood sugar to make sure I didn't go too low - that will wear me out big time. I guess I just went too long without food (more on that

A Day of Small Things

Today I kept busy with small things that I had been putting off. I know, I know. You're absolutely shocked to find out that I'm a procrastinator! LOL It's almost like my hobby, really. Anyway, I spent a lot of time at my desk today, grading some papers, making some phone calls, and receiving a phone call. I don't like to make appointments. I don't know why. They aren't painful or embarrassing. I think some of it has to do with my southern accent; it just really catches people's attention here, and I'm just a teensy weensy bit self-conscious about it. Teensy weensy. I hope Wes doesn't read this! ;) I had an eye doctor's appointment back in December, but that was the day after a big wind storm and the power was out all over Vancouver. So I needed to reschedule since a month ago. I also have received two notices in the mail that it's time for my annual mammogram. Oh, joy! I guess that would fall into the painful and embarrassing c

More Quiet Time with the Lord

In addition to the Bible-reading schedules Wes printed off for our church family, he also bought some devotional guides. Each person in our family is using them, and they are available for our church members to use too. He learned of these daily journals through Reformers Unanimous , a Christ-centered addictions program that operates through local Baptist churches. He has used their materials to help men with addictions, and he was really impressed with their "It's Personal" Daily Journal . It's a quarterly journal with 90 days' pages of daily Bible time, time with God's teachers (preachers and Christian authors), personal prayer time, time with Christian friends (encouragement for you and them), and a place to write down conviction or leading of the Holy Spirit. You use your own Bible-reading plan, listen to sermons or read godly authors, spend time in prayer and work out what you're learning each day by applying it to your life. I'm so excited

Bible Reading

One year ago today I posted what I'd chosen as my Bible-reading schedule for the year. I like to try to read my Bible through each year, just because it's a nice measurement of time and gives a manageable amount of daily reading. Well, I made it! Did I stay caught up? No! Some weeks I would be ashamed for anyone to know about! But I caught up when I got behind and managed to finish reading the Bible all the way through yesterday. Last year I used a topical plan, reading from a certain portion of the Bible on certain days of the week. I must admit, Wednesdays were my favorite days, because those were my Psalms days, and Psalms is one of my favorite books of the Bible. I also enjoyed Saturday and Sunday too, because they were in the New Testament. I had to drag myself kicking and screaming (nearly!) to read on Fridays - the Prophets! And do you know I found some good little gems in those prophetical books?!! Amazing! When it came time to choose another plan this year
