How Much Freedom Does Feminism Really Bring?

This morning my husband was watching a national news show, and they had a piece about a woman who has chosen to become Muslim and wear a burkha, the traditional dress of a Muslim woman. She's a young non-Arabic Canadian woman, married to a Muslim man. She became Muslim when she was 20 years old and chose to submit herself to that religion's rules. The thing that caught my attention was that a group of women were gathered around this woman, arguing with her. They were angry that she had chosen this way of life, this style of dress. Isn't this what feminists have been fighting for, the right to choose what kind of life they want to live? Have they really? Or have they actually been fighting solely for their specific feminist agenda? The typical feminist believes that no woman should put aside her own desires for any man or child; that to have worth, a woman must have a rewarding and financially successful career; that a woman should postpone having children, and should

A Good Conscience

Wes is teaching on Sunday nights on The Science of the Christian Life, based on a series of lessons by the late Dr. Jack Hyles. He's doing a great job of teaching these lessons, and I'm so grateful that I get to sit in the service on Sunday nights. The other two services of the week I'm teaching the kids' class. This past Sunday night, Wes taught on the Science of Conscience. I thought he had some good points, and wanted to share them here. - A damaged conscience (the result of the fall of man) is called several things in the Bible: an evil conscience (Hebrews 10:22); defiled (Titus 1:15); seared (I Timothy 4:1,2); weak and defiled (I Corinthians 8:7); and weak (I Corinthians 8:12). We have to have our consciences back in good repair before we can depend on them. - How to get your consience in good shape: 1. Have a pure mind - Titus 1:15, Philippians 4:8 2. Love - I Timothy 1:5 - learn to love others where they are 3. Fight - I Timothy 1:18,19 - fight the world a

Help Meet to Your Own Husband

I thought Crystal said this well in her blog entry A Helper to our Own Husband , especially this part: Study him and find out how you can serve and honor and bless HIM. Don't try to be like another woman. Thanks for a good article, Crystal!

What I Like About Created To Be His Help Meet

When I first heard of CTBHHM, I heard nothing but great things about it. I told my husband about it, and he said I could order it. Well, I wasn't disappointed with it! Mrs. Pearl had some things to say that the Holy Spirit used in my life to help me. There are some things that have raised my eyebrows, though, and I'll address those as well in another post. I haven't finished reading the whole thing, but I'm close. Overall, I like the book, and I would use some of the principles in it to help teach or counsel other ladies, and I'll continue to use the things I learned from it in my own marriage. So here are some things I liked about it. 1. Mrs. Pearl uses the King James Bible exclusively, which is also my own conviction. This isn't up for debate on my blog, however! If you have questions, I can recommend some books to read on the subject, or I can give you my husband's e-mail address. 2. She has a scriptural basis for everything she says, whether

Created To Be His Helpmeet Revisited

I got this book a couple of months ago, and I still haven't finished reading it. In my original post about the book, I stated that I had read and heard nothing but good about it. Well, that has changed. Now I've seen positive and negative about it, and as I'm reading it, I'm seeing a few things that raise my eyebrows. So I've decided to ask my online friends at Women at the Well , who have read the book, to send me some reviews of their own. These are ladies with whom I talk every day, a great many of them every day for the past 2 1/2 years. Some I've met in person, and many I've developed close friendships with. We are likeminded when it comes to our faith, but we have varying opinions on quite a few things, including CTBHHM. I thought it would be a good idea to have them give me their take on the book, while I finish reading it myself and review either the entire book or each chapter. My desire is not to bash the Pearls, but neither is it to buil

Titus Two Ladies Talk

My friend Tammy has begun a series on her blog, Tammy's Times , with the writings of some older ladies that her mother compiled several years ago. The first installment was great, and I'm looking forward to more. We younger ladies really, really need these older women to teach us. I'm so glad Tammy decided to blog about these!
