My Favorite Sunday School Resources

Image
Welcome to Sunday School After I wrote about my favorite homeschooling resources , a friend of mine asked if I had any good - and free - Sunday school resources. I had already been thinking about getting a list of those together, so I took that as my cue to get on with it. Thanks, Debbie! I almost forgot - any of these sites would be great for homeschool resources too. Teaching is teaching, and these resources are Bible-based! And speaking of Bible-based, please be aware that I do not necessarily agree doctrinally with all these sites . Please use with discretion and in accordance with your doctrinal convictions - and give me the benefit of the doubt if you find something you don't agree with. I use these places as resources - not as my personal doctrinal guides. Child Evangelism Fellowship - I use CEF's lessons for our Sunday school. I have taught completely through the Bible with them since we began our church. CEF has Bible lessons, missionary stories, seaso

My Ten Favorite Homeschool Resources

School Girl Using a Microscope Set at Home With school starting again soon - here in the Vancouver area, school doesn't start till the day after Labour Day and doesn't end till late June - I've been doing a lot of preparations for our homeschool year. As I've been working, I've thought of all the resources I use for our homeschool. Here are my 10 favorites: Our local library - This is pretty self-explanatory. The library is chock full of homeschooling goodies. When I decided to learn Andrew's Chemistry so I can teach him this year, I went straight to the library and picked up The Complete Idiot's Guide to Chemistry. Now we're going to buy it as a reference for Andrew and later, for Beth. And to refresh my 43-year-old memory every day! Donna Young's Homeschool Printables and Resources - This is the first place I go when I need a planner of any kind, homeschool or otherwise. A goldmine of yummy printables! How Do You Know What's Right?

Image
This entry was originally published on January 21, 2006 In our Patch the Pirate Club this month, we've been studying how to make right choices. There really are only two choices when we're confronted with a decision - pleasing God or pleasing self. It's easy to know what to do when something is definitely in the Bible, such as "Thou shalt not bear false witness" or "Children, obey your parents in the Lord"; but what do you do when it's not so clear-cut? The authors of the children's devotions this month spent one week providing them with questions they can ask themselves when they're having a hard time deciding what's right to do. I thought they were excellent questions, and would probably be good for us adults too! I know that I've learned a little more and been challenged myself to please God rather than myself as I've taught the children this month. So I thought I'd share these questions here. 1. What does the Bible say?

A Mother's Function

Image
Apple of Her Eye Another favorite . . . To be Queen Elizabeth within a definite area, deciding celebrations, labors, banquets, and holidays; To be Sears within a certain area, providing toys, boots, cakes, and books; To be Aristotle within a certain area, teaching morals, manners, theology, and hygiene; I can understand how this might exhaust the mind, but I cannot imagine how it could narrow it. How can it be a large career to tell other people's children about the rule of three And a small career to tell one's own children about THE UNIVERSE? How can it be broad to be the same thing to everyone, And narrow to be EVERYTHING to someone? No, a mother's function is laborious not because it is minute, but because it is GIGANTIC. ~~ Author Unknown ~~

Words That Inspire

I love to collect quotes that inspire me. Here are a few that I especially love. I long to accomplish a great and noble task; but it is my chief duty to accomplish small tasks as if they were great and noble . ~~ Helen Keller ~~ The secret of Christian quietness is not indifference , but the knowledge that God is my Father , He loves me, I shall never think of anything He will forget, and worry becomes an impossibility . The golden rule for understanding in spiritual matters is not intellect, but obedience . God never gives us discernment in order that we may criticize , but that we may intercede . ~~ Oswald Chambers ~~ Satan trembles when he sees the weakest saint upon his knees . ~~ William Cowper ~ ~ This entry was originally posted on July 8, 2005
