December Daily: A Christmas Meme

Image
My friend Barbara of Stray Thoughts wrote a new Christmas meme (pronounced "meem" to rhyme with "cream") last week. What's a meme, you ask? In bloggy terms, it's a list of questions about a topic which one blogger asks on her blog, and other bloggers copy and answer on their blogs. I've answered a wedding meme , a Thanksgiving meme , a kitchen meme (when we lived in North Vancouver), a Meet My Bible meme, an Eight Questions meme , and another Christmas meme , among quite a few others. I enjoy doing them, and I enjoy reading them on others' blogs, so if you choose to do this one, let me know and I'll come read it! Just be sure to give the credit to Barbara , ok?! Photo from Stray Thoughts What is your favorite Christmas song?   My favorite Christmas hymn is O Holy Night; my favorite secular song ( since I'm not a kid anymore !) is All I Want For Christmas Is You, the older version. Favorite Christmas special/movie? I love A Charl...

The Week in Words

Image
Welcome to The Week In Words, where we share quotes from the last week’s reading. If something you read this past week  inspired you, caused you to laugh, cry, think, dream, or just resonated with you in some way, please share it with us, attributing it to its source, which can be a book, newspaper, blog, Facebook — anything that you read . More information is here . I'm jumping back in with Barbara's The Week in Words weekly meme! As usual, I have a couple of quotes from friends' Facebook pages. I love having friends who have the depth of character to post more than just trivial things to their status updates! A good character is the best tombstone. Those who loved you and were helped by you will remember you when forget-me-nots have withered. Carve your name on hearts, not on marble. ~~ Charles Spurgeon  I recently read The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People , and one of the exercises in the book has you imagine your own funeral, decide how you want...

The Week in Words

Image
Barbara of Stray Thoughts hosts The Week in Words each Monday. Here's how it works . . .  If something you read during the past week inspired you, caused you to laugh, cry, think, dream, or just resonated with you in some way, please share it with us on Mondays. The source can be a book, newspaper, blog, Facebook — anything that you read . My only stipulation is that we keep it family-friendly.  I saw this on our library window: "I find television very educational. Every time someone switches it on I go into another room and read a good book." ~~ Groucho Marx I read this at This is the day . . .  and immediately asked HOPE's permission to post it here this week. She agreed, and said she had read this somewhere else and had modified it with her own ideas. A strong woman works out every day to keep her body in shape... A woman of STRENGTH...KNEELS IN PRAYER...to keep her soul in shape. A strong woman thinks herself fearless.. A woman of STRENGTH.....

Meet My Bible

Image
I first saw this several months ago on Jessica's Journal , who found it at Amy's Place , and I knew I wanted to do it here. I'm just now getting to it. They don't call me the Queen of Procrastination for nothing! Please feel free to join me in this meme. If you do, leave a comment and let me know. I'd love to read about your Bible too! 1) How old is your Bible? Almost 9 years old; Wes gave it to me for my birthday in 2000. 2) Why did you choose this Bible? I wanted a wide-margin Bible so I could take sermon notes in it, and I wanted one with no notes or cross-references so I could make my own. I've used either a Zondervan or an Old Scofield for all my teen and adult life, and I would always get distracted reading the footnotes instead of the actual Bible text. 3) Do you hightlight/mark passages? I underline and circle things rather than highlight them. 4) If so what is your system? I simply underline things that speak to my heart. I will often cros...

December Daily: Christmas Meme

I saw this meme at Stray Thoughts , and I believe I also got it in an email from Kristi ( Thimble Thoughts ). I thought it would be fun for a December Daily post! 1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Wrapping paper for our family gifts that go under the tree. Gift bags for friends. 2. Real tree or Artificial? I finally succumbed to the artificial tree. I held out for the real one for years and years, but Wes likes the ease of the artificial ones - pre-lit, too! Gives us more of that Christmas peace! ;) 3. When do you put up the tree? Usually around the second week of December. Sam's birthday is the 12th, so I used to wait till after that to decorate when he was younger. Beth loves to decorate for Christmas, so it gets earlier every year. Before long we'll be decorating on Thanksgiving Day! ;) 4. When do you take the tree down? New Year's Day 5. Do you like eggnog? I love it, but I can't drink it anymore because of all the sugar in it. 6. Favorite gift receiv...
