The Week in Words

We had such a busy weekend that we all slept in and are taking it easy today. As a result, I had forgotten about The Week in Words this morning. I just have one quote today, seen in With the Word  during my devotions recently. It's a well-known poem by William Cowper, but I'd never read the verse in its entirety and paid attention to what it said: "God moves in a mysterious way, His wonders to perform; He plants His footsteps in the sea, and rides upon the storm. Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take; the clouds ye so much dread Are big with mercy, and shall break With blessing on your head." ~~ William Cowper What a blessing to be reminded that those clouds of trouble we dread so much will be filled with blessings and mercy from the Lord! No need to worry; God is in control and He has a plan! To see more of The Week in Words or to participate yourself, stop by Stray Thoughts .

Barbara of Stray Thoughts hosts The Week in Words each Monday. Here's how it works . . .  If something you read during the past week inspired you, caused you to laugh, cry, think, dream, or just resonated with you in some way, please share it with us on Mondays. The source can be a book, newspaper, blog, Facebook — anything that you read . My only stipulation is that we keep it family-friendly.  I saw this on our library window: "I find television very educational. Every time someone switches it on I go into another room and read a good book." ~~ Groucho Marx I read this at This is the day . . .  and immediately asked HOPE's permission to post it here this week. She agreed, and said she had read this somewhere else and had modified it with her own ideas. A strong woman works out every day to keep her body in shape... A woman of STRENGTH...KNEELS IN PRAYER...to keep her soul in shape. A strong woman thinks herself fearless.. A woman of STRENGTH..

My friend, Barbara, hosts The Week in Words every Monday on her blog, Stray Thoughts : Welcome to The Week In Words, where we share quotes from the last week’s reading. If something you read this past week  inspired you, caused you to laugh, cry, think, dream, or just resonated with you in some way, please share it with us. The source can be a book, newspaper, blog, Facebook — anything that you read . This from a friend's Facebook status this morning: " If you think about it, the Earth is bipolar. This may explain a lot." Although I didn't read this one from someone else last week, I did have the chance to share one of my favorite quotes in a blog comment. I try to remember this as I work at all the seemingly small things I do each week: "I long to accomplish a great and noble task, but it is my chief duty to accomplish small tasks as if they were great and noble." ~~ Helen Keller From the e-book Personal Friendships of Jesus by J.R. Miller,

Wednesday in the Word: Opportunity

When I was about 15, my uncle and aunt, who lived near San Diego, invited me to fly from my home in Tennessee to visit with them for a couple of weeks that summer. I dearly loved them and wanted to see them, but I'd never flown before, and - this was the biggie - there had been a rash of hijackings already that year. I just knew my plane would be hijacked! Plus I wouldn't get back home till the day after school started in my town, and we all know how important kids consider the first day of school, especially when compared to the fun of visiting a favored uncle and aunt. You know that was said facetiously, right?! So I turned down their invitation, much to their and my parents' amazement. As I look back now, I see what an opportunity I missed: the chance to fly for the first time (I love to fly now), the chance the visit with my aunt, who passed away just a couple of years later (she wasn't sick at that time), the chance to have fun with my cousins, the cha

One of my favorite bloggers, Barbara of Stray Thoughts , has taken over the job of hosting the weekly meme The Week in Words. In this meme, bloggers share meaningful quotations they've read during the previous week along with how and why it touched them. I've been following Barbara's posts on Mondays and enjoyed her contributions, and now that she's hosting the meme, I want to join in and support her. I've always enjoyed inspirational quotes. I have quite a few that I've saved to a folder in Word, and I also have a small notebook where I've written down a few through the years, but I've never been consistent about writing them down. Many times, I read something that resonates with me, but I don't mark it or write it down and I forget where it was. I'm hoping that participating in this meme will make me even more aware of great quotes and give me the motivation to at least mark them when I'm reading. I have just discovered ebooks, books yo
