December Daily: Stewardship

Stewardship is the ordering of one's life so that time, ability, possessions, and all of one's personality are administered as belonging to God. Unknown

Need Math?

Wes was just clearing out some stuff in his office and found our Saxon Algebra 1/2 (corresponds to 8th grade level) that we no longer need. He's willing to give it to anyone who needs it for next school year and who is willing to pay the shipping. Please email me using the Email Me button in the sidebar if you're interested. First come, first served!

December Daily: Tell Me The Story of Jesus

Tell Me the Story of Jesus Tell me the story of Jesus, Write on my heart every word; Tell me the story most precious, Sweetest that ever was heard! Tell how the angels, in chorus, Sang as they welcomed His birth, "Glory to God in the highest! Peace and good tidings to earth!"           Tell me the story of Jesus,      Write on my heart every word;      Tell me the story most precious,      Sweetest that ever was heard! Fasting alone in the desert; Tell of the days that are past -- How for our sins He was tempted, Yet was triumphant at last. Tell of the years of His labor, Tell of the sorrow He bore -- He was despised and afflicted, Homeless, rejected and poor.          Tell me the story of Jesus,      Write on my heart every word;      Tell me the story most precious,      Sweetest that ever was heard! Tell of the cross where they nailed Him, Writhing in anguish and pain; Tell of the grave where they laid Him, Tell how He liveth again! Love

December Daily: What Child Is This?

Image
The Shepherds Come to See Mary Joseph and Their Baby Jesus Giclee Print Hole, William Buy  at AllPosters.com What Child Is This? 1. What Child is this who, laid to rest On Mary's lap is sleeping? Whom Angels greet with anthems sweet, While shepherds watch are keeping? This, this is Christ the King, Whom shepherds guard and Angels sing; Haste, haste, to bring Him laud, The Babe, the Son of Mary. 2. Why lies He in such mean estate, Where ox and ass are feeding? Good Christians, fear, for sinners here The silent Word is pleading. Nails, spear shall pierce Him through, The cross be borne for me, for you. Hail, hail the Word made flesh, The Babe, the Son of Mary. 3. So bring Him incense, gold and myrrh, Come peasant, king to own Him; The King of kings salvation brings, Let loving hearts enthrone Him. Raise, raise a song on high, The virgin sings her lullaby. Joy, joy for Christ is born, The Babe, the Son of Mary.

December Daily: An Ornament for God

At Christmas, we seek out the perfect ornaments to put on our tree. I enjoy looking for ornaments that remind me of a special event, person, or place. I actually have an ornament that is a replica of a Cracker Barrel restaurant; can you tell what is important to me?! Some ornaments are handmade, while others are bought from a store. Some are cheap, like those from the Dollar Store; others are very expensive, like this one produced by a partner of Hallmark Jewellers in Titchfield, England, worth over $130,000. We're more likely to decorate from the Dollar Store! :) There's one ornament, though, that is the most precious to God, and that is the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit. But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. I Peter 3:4 This meek and quiet spirit is not weak and mousy! On the contrary, it takes a woman with great confidence to have me

December Daily: Christmas Cookies

Image
We're getting ready to make Christmas cookies to send to the boys. We're mailing their boxes Monday in hopes that they'll get there right on time for opening Christmas Day! This is the first time we've mailed to them with a deadline, so we'll see how it goes. The USPS website says Monday is the last day for Christmas delivery via Priority Mail. And can I say just how much I love love love Click N Ship ??? It has come in handy for shipping personal packages as well as helping out a customer when she needs quick shipping. I will never stand in line at the post office again if I can help it! And neither will my husband; he will take the boys' packages already paid-for and labeled and just hand them to a clerk . . . without having to stand in a ginormous line. At least I hope it works that way on Monday! ;) Now. Cookies! I've always enjoyed making Christmas cookies. Our favorite is Chocolate Crinkles: soft, chewy brownie inside with a crinkly surface outside

Monday Ministry Highlights: Candy Cane Evangelism

No, we're not going liberal! What we are doing is standing on street corners handing out candy canes and tracts! Saturday was our second annual Candy Cane Blitz. In November my husband orders a couple thousand tracts from Bearing Precious Seed Canada that tell the legend of the candy cane ; then the two Saturdays before Christmas our church goes out onto the street corners of North Vancouver and we give a candy cane with each tract to everyone who will take one. This is just one more way to get the gospel into people's hands and to hopefully talk to a few people and maybe see them come to church. We get varied responses. Some people are very suspicious. They stop for a second, look at us a little closer, look at the candy cane again . . . suspicious people don't often take the candy or tract. Then we meet those who don't eat candy; very common up here as Vancouver's a health-conscious city. Then we meet those who won't let their children eat candy. That's a

December Daily: Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus

Image
Buy at AllPosters.com I had never noticed this Christmas hymn until Thanksgiving evening when we were singing around the piano with our friends. It's the same tune as Jesus What a Friend of Sinners , which I love, and as I read the words to this song, what a blessing they were! It was written in 1745 by Charles Wesley. Come, Thou long expected Jesus Born to set Thy people free; From our fears and sins release us, Let us find our rest in Thee. Israel’s Strength and Consolation, Hope of all the earth Thou art; Dear Desire of every nation, Joy of every longing heart. Born Thy people to deliver, Born a child and yet a King, Born to reign in us forever, Now Thy gracious kingdom bring. By Thine own eternal Spirit Rule in all our hearts alone; By Thine all sufficient merit, Raise us to Thy glorious throne.

Wednesday in the Word: Jesus - God's Sent One

The month of November was Missions Month at our church , and on the last Thursday night of the month my husband taught a lesson entitled Jesus - God's Sent One , making the observation that Jesus was actually the first missionary. I've heard him teach this lesson before, but with Christmas coming up, I thought it was fitting for a devotional during this month that we celebrate His birth! 1. Jesus was a missionary. He came a foreign land; He left heaven for earth. He came to a people who didn't ask for Him to come nor seek Him. He lived among the ones He came to reach. He told the Message of salvation wherever He went. 2. Jesus identified Himself with the people He came to. To win man, He became a man; a Jew to reach the Jews. 3. Jesus took men as He found them. He accepted them as He found them, but He didn't leave them as He found them! 4. Jesus, having come to seek men, went to where they were: the streets and houses, cities and villages. He went looking for people, n

December Daily: O Come All Ye Faithful

Image
Christmas Carolers Art Print McNaughton, Jon Buy at AllPosters.com One of my favorite Christmas carols is O Come All Ye Faithful. I was in a situation the other morning with time on my hands and nothing to do, so I began to sing this song and really think about the words. How often do we sing songs without thinking about what we're singing? These verses were a blessing to me and began to prepare my heart for Christmas! O come, all ye faithful, Joyful and triumphant, O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem; Come and behold him, Born the King of angels; [Chorus] O come, let us adore him, O come, let us adore him, O Come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord. Sing, choirs of angels, Sing in exultation, Sing, all ye citizens of heaven above; Glory to God All glory in the highest; [Chorus] O come, let us adore him, O come, let us adore him, O Come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord. See how the shepherds, Summoned to his cradle, Leaving their flocks, draw nigh to gaze; We too will thither Bend
