Seven Blessings For The New Year

Image
Here's another little New Year's gem I came across the other day. Since it's only January 3rd, we can still do New Year things, right?! I liked this because it is scriptural, each blessing straight from God's Word. I hope you enjoy it! Seven Blessings For The New Year May the Lord's presence this coming year be: ABOVE YOU- to guard. "Know therefore this day...that the Lord He is God in heaven above." (Deuteronomy 4:39) UNDERNEATH- to support. "The eternal God is thy refuge and underneath are the everlasting arms." (Deuteronomy 33:27) BEHIND- as a rereward. "The God of Israel will be your rereward." (Isaiah 52:12) AT YOUR RIGHT HAND- to protect. "Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved." (Psalm 16:8) BEFORE- to lead. "I will go before thee and make the crooked places straight." (Isaiah 45:2) ROUND ABOUT- to shield from storms. "As the mountains are ...

A Help

Image
'Peace' by Sandra Marek These words were a help to me when I read them last Friday: "The poise that God desires for us to possess is not the result of stuffing our emotions away, pretending that life doesn't bother us. Neither is it a calm manifestation of tight-lipped, clenched-jaw resolve. God doesn't ask us to ignore the cries of our overwrought, heavily-burdened souls. He simply asks us to bring those burdens and stresses to Him." ~~ Paul Chappell, Stewarding Life Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.  ~~ Philippians 4:6

Good Morning, America!

I'm writing this at 10:00 PM on Election Day. President Obama has been re-elected. Many Americans are mourning and wondering what is going to happen to our country, and many others are celebrating. I read the status updates of my friends on Facebook throughout the evening. Emotions ran the gamut of tears, anger, frustration, anxiety, fear, and faith. I understand all of those emotions, and am encouraged by those whose faith hasn't been shaken. The one thing that has puzzled me, both in 2008 and 2012, is the anger of Christians. Some statements about Obama and world events, at best, border on hatred for the President and certain ethnic groups, and the overriding thoughts I've seen are that we (Christians) have to fight, and fight hard, and be angry at The Enemy (Obama and Is*lam). I've been in fundamental Baptist churches for almost 41 years. I've heard preachers all these 41 years say that God is going to judge America, has to judge America, and that we are in...

Beatitudes For The Homemaker

Image
Pink Peonies Blessed is she whose daily tasks are of love, for her willing hands and happy heart transform duty into joyous service to all her family and God. Blessed is she who opens the door to welcome both stranger and friends, for gracious hospitality is a test of brotherly love. Blessed is she who mends stockings and toys and broken hearts, for her understanding is a balm to her husband and children. Blessed is she whom children love, for the love of a child is of greater value than fortune or fame. Blessed is she who dusts away doubt and fear and sweeps away the cobwebs of confusion, for her faith will triumph over all adversity. Blessed is she who serves laughter and smiles with every meal, for her cheerfulness is an aid to mental and physical digestion. Blessed is she who introduces Jesus Christ to her children, for godly sons and daughters shall be her reward. Blessed is she who preserves the sacredness of the Christian home, for hers is a divine tr...

In All Labour

Image
The Seamstress or, Young Woman Working Pro 14:23 In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury (poverty). I love to read about organization, time management, and homemaking . . . but when it comes to actually doing things - organizing, using my time wisely, making my house a home - well, I'm not quite as good at doing it as I am at reading about it. We can sit and read about a subject all day, but until we get up and do something, there's no profit from it. In all labour there is profit; even if we don't do it perfectly, there is still profit in doing something !
