I Think I Can!

Image
The girls who host the Friday Night Sew-In are having TWO sew-ins during December! I'll be joining the one on December 17th. I'm excited, because my craft room is in the process of being set up and I think it might just be finished by the 17th! The first Sew-In is on the 10th, if you would like to join in one or both, but I can't do that one 'cause we're having a party at the church. I'm not sure yet what I'll work on. I'm not making any Christmas gifts (like I plan to every year and never do!), but I've seen some cute Christmasy things online the past couple of weeks that I'd like to try. Or maybe I'll make a Coffee Filter Wreath - another one, actually, as I'm halfway finished with my first one. I love it! So pretty and ruffly! I'll show you pictures when I finish it.

Wednesday in the Word: How to Love the King

Today I'm going to share with you the sermon my husband preached Sunday night. I love hearing him preach, and in our new church , I actually get to hear him three times a week! Sunday night he preached on Mephibosheth, one of my favorite Bible characters (believe it or not), and how he loved King David supremely. We can see lessons from his life on how to love our King, the Lord Jesus Christ. II Samuel 19:15-30 First, we see that Mephibosheth loved the king with absolute devotion . The reason he loved the king so devotedly is because of what David had done for him in II Samuel 9. David had brought him to his own house and set him at his own table even though he was the last surviving member of Saul's household and technically was a threat to David's throne as such. David showed mercy and grace for Jonathan's sake, however; and Mephibosheth acknowledges David's mercy in verse 28. And that's what Jesus has done for us; He's taken us from our cr...

The Week in Words

Image
Welcome to The Week In Words, where we share quotes from the last week’s reading. If something you read this past week  inspired you, caused you to laugh, cry, think, dream, or just resonated with you in some way, please share it with us, attributing it to its source, which can be a book, newspaper, blog, Facebook — anything that you read . More information is here . It's been quite a few weeks since I've participated in Barbara's The Week in Words ! This week I'm sharing two quotes that came through my email inbox via This Day's Thought . The rule that governs my life is this:  Anything that dims my vision of Christ, or takes away my taste for Bible study, or cramps my prayer life, or makes Christian work difficult, is wrong for me, and I must, as a Christian, turn away from it.  This simple rule may help you find a safe road for your feet along life’s road. J. Wilbur Chapman I think I've read that one before, but it especially spoke to my ...

Finding Peace

This is the secret of joy.  We shall no longer strive for our own way; but commit ourselves, easily and simply, to God’s way, acquiesce in his will and in so doing find our peace. Evelyn Underhill Image by bquad ; used with permission.

In the Midst of It

Let me tell you, we are in the midst of IT today! We're having some work done on our house (of the pest control, ie silverfish, kind), and the man said we have to be out of the house for six hours AFTER he's finished. We left when he got there. And where are we going to go for most of the day? The library , of course! Wes, Beth, and I are set up in the 'Quiet Room' of our local library, each with our laptops, doing things we might not think we have the time to do at home . . . like writing blog posts! I also have plans to enter some recipes into my computer (from a library book I've had for 5 weeks and still haven't looked through), do some Bible study, and make some plans for next year's ladies' meetings (is it really next-year-planning-time already?!). Part of today's chaos is leftover from yesterday's . You see, the bug guy was scheduled to come yesterday. We had our day planned very well: finish getting things ready for the bug guy, whic...

How Do You Handle It?

We have to acquire a peace and balance of mind such that we can give every word of criticism its due weight, and humble ourselves before every word of praise. Dag Hammarskjold These two situations, on opposite ends of the spectrum, show our true character. May we learn to find the kernel of truth in every critical remark and give glory to God through every word of praise!

I Believe God

Here's our older son, Sam, singing at Lancaster Baptist Church last Sunday night. He's the bass on the far right, who sings the first verse. Also in the quartet, left to right, are Peter Mordh, Ben Erickson, John Tyler. Hope it's a blessing to you!
