In the Midst of It

Image
Let me tell you, we are in the midst of IT today! We're having some work done on our house (of the pest control, ie silverfish, kind), and the man said we have to be out of the house for six hours AFTER he's finished. We left when he got there. And where are we going to go for most of the day? The library , of course! Wes, Beth, and I are set up in the 'Quiet Room' of our local library, each with our laptops, doing things we might not think we have the time to do at home . . . like writing blog posts! I also have plans to enter some recipes into my computer (from a library book I've had for 5 weeks and still haven't looked through), do some Bible study, and make some plans for next year's ladies' meetings (is it really next-year-planning-time already?!). Part of today's chaos is leftover from yesterday's . You see, the bug guy was scheduled to come yesterday. We had our day planned very well: finish getting things ready for the bug guy, whic...

How Do You Handle It?

We have to acquire a peace and balance of mind such that we can give every word of criticism its due weight, and humble ourselves before every word of praise. Dag Hammarskjold These two situations, on opposite ends of the spectrum, show our true character. May we learn to find the kernel of truth in every critical remark and give glory to God through every word of praise!

I Believe God

Here's our older son, Sam, singing at Lancaster Baptist Church last Sunday night. He's the bass on the far right, who sings the first verse. Also in the quartet, left to right, are Peter Mordh, Ben Erickson, John Tyler. Hope it's a blessing to you!

The Week in Words

Good Monday morning! Joining in with Barbara for The Week in Words . The Lord blessed me with a couple of thoughts during my devotions this morning, and those are what I'll share with you today. First, from F.B. Meyer's devotional: "Do not try to do a great thing, or you may waste all your life waiting for the opportunity which may never come. But since little things are always claiming your attention, do them as they come from a great motive, for the glory of God and to do good to men. No such action, no matter how trivial, goes without the swift recognition and the ultimate recompense of Christ."  and . . . "Dare to be yourself -- a simple, humble, sincere follower of Jesus, and it may be said also of you: "He or she did no miracle, but by life and word spoke true things about Jesus Christ, whcih we have tested for ourselves. Indeed, they led us to believe in Christ for ourselves." From This Day's Thought last Thursday: From the greate...

Welcome to The Week In Words, where we share quotes from the last week’s reading. If something you read this past week  inspired you, caused you to laugh, cry, think, dream, or just resonated with you in some way, please share it with us, attributing it to its source, which can be a book, newspaper, blog, Facebook — anything that you read . More information is here . I'm jumping back in with Barbara's The Week in Words weekly meme! As usual, I have a couple of quotes from friends' Facebook pages. I love having friends who have the depth of character to post more than just trivial things to their status updates! A good character is the best tombstone. Those who loved you and were helped by you will remember you when forget-me-nots have withered. Carve your name on hearts, not on marble. ~~ Charles Spurgeon  I recently read The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People , and one of the exercises in the book has you imagine your own funeral, decide how you want...

Wednesday in the Word: Discouraged?

This entry was cross-posted today at KJV Blog Directory . We all have ups and downs in life. Some of us seem to feel those downs more than others, and some seasons of life are more down than others. I know for me, personally, I've had three times when I was very low. One of those times was caused by circumstances, and the other two were caused by physical problems which affected my thought life. While I've never had thoughts of suicide, I have experienced times of just wanting to curl up in a ball and let life go by till everything got better. Now, on the other side of those times, I know that ignoring the thoughts won't make them go away, and ignoring life will not make the problems go away. What should you do when depressing thoughts start to control you? In Psalms 42 and 43, David was struggling with thoughts of depression. "Hope in God." Psalm 42:5, 11; 43:5 - Look at the future and not at the past. If you feel drowned by circumsta...

The Week in Words

It's been several weeks since I participated in The Week in Words at Stray Thoughts . Except for a week-long trip at the end of August, things are settling down once again after a whirlwind of a summer. Barbara features The Week in Words is published on Monday, but I just didn't have the chance to post yesterday, so this week mine's on Tuesday! Here's how it works: Welcome to The Week In Words, where we share quotes from the last week’s reading. If something you read this past week  inspired you, caused you to laugh, cry, think, dream, or just resonated with you in some way, please share it with us, attributing it to its source, which can be a book, newspaper, blog, Facebook — anything that you read . In my personal Bible reading this week, I read the account of the Crucifixion of Jesus in Mark 15. Along with my Bible reading, I'm using Warren Wiersbe's With the Word , and his comments on that chapter resonated with me: The devil told Jesus, "Serve Y...
