Having your 16-year-old son sit down just to talk with you. Room in the fridge for whatever you need to put in. Clean clothes.. Sunshine. Lighting a candle. Cool summer evenings. Listening to your daughter play the piano. Having your 14-year-old son give you his extra flashlight to use at camp. Watching kittens play. Sleeping in with your husband. Sitting around the table after a meal, chatting with your children.

Just Call Me Mephibosheth

I woke up this morning thinking about my Hosanna Ranch friends that I wrote about yesterday , how they adopt children who have physical or emotional problems and give them a life far better than they've known before. I was reminded of one of my favorite stories in the Bible, that of Mephibosheth, grandson of King Saul of Israel. Several years into his reign, King David wanted to find out if any of the family of Saul was left. He found a servant named Ziba, of the house of Saul, who told him that the son of Jonathan was still alive, living in the town of Lo-debar, who was lame. So David sent down to Lo-debar and had Mephibosheth brought to Jerusalem, where David established him in the palace and allowed him to eat at the king's table for the rest of his life. The reason I love this story is because Mephibosheth is a picture of me. I was "lame in my feet" - sin had crippled me. I wasn't able to get to "Jerusalem" from Lo-debar, and I wasn't worth

Words That Inspire

I love to collect quotes that inspire me. Here are a few that I especially love. I long to accomplish a great and noble task; but it is my chief duty to accomplish small tasks as if they were great and noble. Helen Keller The secret of Christian quietness is not indifference, but the knowledge that God is my Father, He loves me, I shall never think of anything He will forget, and worry becomes an impossibility. Oswald Chambers The golden rule for understanding in spiritual matters is not intellect, but obedience. Oswald Chambers Satan trembles when he sees the weakest saint upon his knees. William Cowper God never gives us discernment in order that we may criticize, but that we may intercede. Oswald Chambers

Reflections on Our World Today

This morning's terrorist attacks in London brought to my mind once again the fear that we all felt on 9/11, when terrorists attacked in New York City and Washington, DC. I was very scared that day, but today I simply felt sadness that it's happening again. As I was getting dressed this morning, I was listening to news reports on TV. The reporters here in Canada were talking about how safe the transit system is in the Vancouver area, and one of them said that the feeling of safety here is just an illusion of safety, that a terrorist attack could indeed happen here, just as it could in any city in the world - and does in many places - we are so blessed to live in relative safety in North America! I began thinking about what the Bible says about putting our trust in man. Psa 118:8 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. Psa 146:3 Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. Pro 29:25 The fear of man bringe

A Gracious Lady

The wife of one of the most famous - and oldest - fundamental Baptist preachers in America went home to Heaven last Sunday, June 26th. I met Mrs. Roberson once, about 5 years ago, when her husband preached at our home church in Texas. She was such a gracious example of Christian womanhood. I love to learn from older ladies, especially pastor's wives, and I think I might have learned a lot from Mrs. Roberson if I'd had the chance. Her husband was the pastor of Highland Park Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN, for 40 years. Here is a portion of her biography: Caroline Allen Roberson, age 89, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 26, 2005. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama on November 1, 1915. She was saved at age nine, attended Ensley Baptist Church until marrying Dr. Lee Roberson on October 9, 1937. Dr. Roberson was an evangelist when they met, then took the pastorate of the Fairfield Baptist Church at the edge of Birmingham, Alabama, when they married. The Lord blessed
