In the Midst of It

Farm House with truck, Old school

Let me tell you, we are in the midst of IT today! We're having some work done on our house (of the pest control, ie silverfish, kind), and the man said we have to be out of the house for six hours AFTER he's finished. We left when he got there. And where are we going to go for most of the day? The library, of course! Wes, Beth, and I are set up in the 'Quiet Room' of our local library, each with our laptops, doing things we might not think we have the time to do at home . . . like writing blog posts! I also have plans to enter some recipes into my computer (from a library book I've had for 5 weeks and still haven't looked through), do some Bible study, and make some plans for next year's ladies' meetings (is it really next-year-planning-time already?!).

Part of today's chaos is leftover from yesterday's. You see, the bug guy was scheduled to come yesterday. We had our day planned very well: finish getting things ready for the bug guy, which means taking absolutely everything we own and piling it on beds and tables and in the middle of the floor - we own way too much; leaving the house and going down to The States for the afternoon, where we would be buying a wedding gift for a friend there that's getting married next month and delivering it to her house; having dinner somewhere there or back in Canada; and then going to church.

Well, when the guy didn't show up when he was supposed to, Wes called the office and learned that the guy was sick. Only he had neglected to let us know that. The secretary woud let the big boss know what was going on and get back to him. So Wes told me to take Beth and do our shopping and visiting, and he would either meet us or call and let us know what to do. So we went, picked out beautiful towels and a bath rug, delivered them to our friend, and headed back to Canada. We convinced the border guard that we were not going to just have the gift shipped to us later to avoid paying duty on it (why would I declare it if I were trying to smuggle it in later?), and she let us back in.

One day I'm going to write a post about the questions we've been asked at the border. We get some doozies, but I guess they ask off-the-wall questions to try to guage our honesty by our reactions to their questions.

Did I mention the tension in the air yesterday? Wes and I actually had a real fight (my fault completely), but we made up. Beth and I even had some adventures to tell you about on our trip to the US yesterday. Yes, even a tiny little afternoon trip has adventures for us. You'd think we were Lucy and Ethel. This is real life happenin' in the Hutchens household this week, folks!

So we have basically lost two whole days of our week. And we are having busy weeks right now. I know I've been absent without outward cause lately, but I assure you, there is a cause, and you will find out about it soon. Just know that we're in the midst of it . . .

I'm glad you're able to catch up on some computer time! Though it IS aggravating when service people don't communicate well.

  3. Barbara ~ The bug guy was able to discount our service a bit, so it turned out pretty much ok. We still lost two days at home, but things will be fine! :)

Jennifer ~ Thanks for the prayers! Nothing bad going on, but some changes coming up. :)
