567356: Mistaken Identity: Two Families, One Survivor, Unwavering HopeMistaken Identity: Two Families, One Survivor, Unwavering Hope

By Don & Susie Van Ryn; Newell, Colleen & Whitney Cerak

We watched this story on Dateline NBC tonight. It is absolutely amazing! I had actually read about it online yesterday and knew I wanted to get the book. When I realized it was on TV tonight, I was very interested in it.

Two young women were involved in the same traffic accident. One survived, while the other died. The problem arose when their identities were mixed up at the scene of the accident and both families just accepted those identities for what they thought they were. For five weeks, one family believed they had lost their daughter, while the other was grateful that theirs had survived. Then the family who thought it was their daughter in that hospital bed began to notice little things that didn't make sense: the shape of her teeth or the color of her eyes were slightly different than their daughter's. This incredible story reveals how they realized just who she was and how the Lord helped them through the most difficult period of their lives.

What I loved most about both families was their incredible faith, referred to freely throughout the program. Both families had wonderful peace, both before and after the true identity of the surviving young woman was realized. I haven't read the book, but after watching this tonight, I'm hoping to be able to get it and read it for myself!

  1. Never read the book but have read a different book called "Tuesday Morning".

I don't know off hand who wrote the book but it is very similar to the book you mentioned. I would suggest that if you read "Tuesday morning" that you also read the sequel because I feel it finishes the story up. (but then isn't that what a sequel doest?) :)

  2. Oh! I remember that story when it happened. That would be so sad and tragic for both sides.

I didn't realize there was a book published about this story. I would love to read it. We have acquaintances who go to the Cerak's church.
    So glad you shared this~

  6. I remember this being on the news. They were from a Christian college somewhere out in the midwest I believe. Incredible. The one that the person Corene is referring to is one I am reading now: One Tuesday Morning by Karen Kingsbury...it is very good. (about 9/11/01)
