Was it Productive or Not?

I had grand intentions for today. I got up and did my exercising, fixed breakfast, showered and dressed for the day. Then I ran errands and did my grocery shopping. When I got home, I was starved. Wes likes dinner in the middle of the day now, so I started cooking at 2:30. We ate at 3:30. At about 4:00 I went upstairs to do some work while Andrew and Beth did the dishes, but somewhere between the kitchen and the bedroom, I realized I was bushed, so I lay down to take a nap. Hmmmm. Wes woke me at 5:30, but I didn't come out of the fog till just before 6. Church is at 7:30. So. This day is pretty much shot.

I guess it's a diabetic thing. There are some days that I am full of energy, then there will be a day that I start out strong and fizzle out by mid-afternoon. I do know that I got extra hungry, although I kept a good eye on my blood sugar to make sure I didn't go too low - that will wear me out big time. I guess I just went too long without food (more on that below). I'm gradually learning that when my body is really tired, I might as well sleep, because nothing will get done till I do.

As for food and blood sugar and stuff . . . I took my last pill for blood sugar on Sunday. On Saturday I read that a diabetic friend of mine has begun eating small meals every 2 hours. Each one is no more than 250 calories, and she keeps her carbs to 25-35 grams per day. Her blood sugar has leveled off with this way of eating, so I thought I'd give it a try this week, since my medicine is gone and my doctor's appointment is next Monday. Overall, it's working for me too! I've had very little fluctuation in my sugar levels, but I have to eat every 2 hours. That's what happened today; I had gone longer than the 2 hours since my last snack. I plan to continue this way of eating until I see my doctor. I'm keeping close records so that I can tell him how things are going, and see if he'll let me stick with this a bit longer without the medicine.

So my day wasn't very productive, and Wes and I are going to a couples' seminar tomorrow, so tomorrow is filled up already. Sigh. I'll have to do a couple of 15-minute passes tonight after church and see what I can get done. It will be the most needful things, for sure!

  2. It would be wonderful if you could get your sugar regulated without medicines. Hopefully your doctor will permit you to do that if everything looks good. I've heard of eating like that and have suggested it to daddy, but to no avail.
Have a good time at the conference!

  3. Best wishes with your diabetes. Mine is fluctuating. Here latelu some days I am way higher than I've ever been and then Fri a week ago I went hypo at my parents house having a low sugar attack. Then back up again I went. The dr took me off my new meds since they give me side effects like upset stomach & sometimes diarrehea like symptoms & put me back on my old meds. I'm out of 1 of my old meds & can't get to the pharmacy until Tues as it's an hr away from us. Taking one of the old meds without the other one isn't working. So I put myself back on the new one until Tues. I had to as I was running 400 one nite. Yikes.

I know what you are talking about. The diabetes tires me out easy plus my allergies so I sleep late everyday. I'll be watching tv or something & end up falling asleep. I figure it's the diabetes. Since hubby & I are both diabetic, I fix diabetic recipes for us to eat that are diabetic but taste good. Mike got his sugars down to 119 & I am so pleased with him. Hope your new diabetes plan works for you. God Bless...

Now...I don't know that 'it's a diabetic thing'....when I read what you had accomplished and the energy it took to make dinner/clean up..it was a very productive day up until that point!!! (I have you linked, btw). Naps are healthy, and shouldn't always cause us to be concerned. I say this, because my DH and D2 are always reminding me when I have the same query over my health ALL THAT I'VE DONE ALREADY....!! I can be found at http://halfwayhome.wordpress.com

  5. Oh, I definitely have the same thing. This week, I have had to take a nap twice. It wasn't a choice, I just became so drained that I fell asleep.

Blood sugar levels going up and down are not fun.

  6. I hope you are able to keep your levels even without the meds. Wouldn't that be great?!

  7. Oh I hate those sugarnaps! It's like being mugged by a nap! And it's so frustrating when you have things to do.

Looks like the eating every two hours is working, maybe youshould carry around an emergency snack like nuts or something?

  8. Oh I sure hope that works! My dad struggles with that as well. It sure would be a blessing to not have to depend on the medication!-heather

http://halfwayhome.wordpress.com - sorry...guess this is about a diabetic thing....but to me, you seemed to have accomplished a good amount in your day already. We're both in our 40's as well.....just hoped to be an encouragement. That was all.
