I Forgot!

I can't believe I forgot to tell you what Beth and I have been looking forward to for a week! We're signed up to take cake-decorating classes at our local Michael's store! Our first class is tomorrow. I've done a little decorating, but nothing more than a shell border or two. The classes were half price, and we each got our own class kit at 40% off. My mom and sister are taking the same classes in SC, but they're about one course ahead of us. They were my inspiration to check with Michael's and see when their next classes started. If we make anything worth seeing, I'll post pictures as we go through the class! ;)

  1. Susan, I'm excited for you! Yes, be sure and take pictures--even if you don't think they're worthy of posting, at least Beth will have a record of her step-by-step progress of her early days as a cake decorator!

Sarah took all 3 of Wilton's classes in past years and did an excellent job. She just made a bridal shower cake last week--I thought it was beautiful with brown and blue colors to match the bridesmaids' dresses. But she didn't want me to post a pic!

The only drawback we have found to being a cake decorator is the long hours you stand up in the kitchen doing all the icing and decorating--but hopefully the more experience you have it doesn't take as long for each cake. Hope you have a fun, fun time!

  2. Susan -

I took a course at a local bakery about 13 years ago. I loved it! I've never done anything grand with it (like Deb's Sarah), but it is an awful lot of fun; and I've really enjoyed decorating cakes for the children over the years. :o)

    Have fun!

  3. That sounds like so much fun!!! Can't wait to see pictures! Cake decorating sounds like something I would really be interested in, that's for sure.
Gosh, I miss Michael's...and Hobby Lobby for that matter...

  4. Sounds like a lot of fun. Did you see Courtney's Contemplations pictures of their trip to the fair? They had a cake decorating contest and I couldn't believe the amazing looking cakes they had there. I'm sure you and Beth will have a great time learning together. What fun! :)

  5. How fun!! I don't have much interest in such things...but I'm glad you do. I'm looking forward to seeing some of your pictures. (You want to know the real reason I won't get into cake decorating...sssshhhh...don't say anything....I'm afraid I might eat too much cake or too much icing....I'm big enough as it is...LOL!!) Have fun with it Sis!!

  6. Have fun, fun, fun!!! It is one of my goals to take a cake decorating class!

  7. Thanks, ladies! We enjoyed our first class so much, and we didn't even get to do anything! LOL We should have something to show you next week, even if it's just a border on a cake.

Deb - I'd love to see Sarah's cake!

Thanks for taking a minute to read my ramblings and leave a comment! I appreciate it!
