Good Morning, America!

I'm writing this at 10:00 PM on Election Day. President Obama has been re-elected. Many Americans are mourning and wondering what is going to happen to our country, and many others are celebrating.

I read the status updates of my friends on Facebook throughout the evening. Emotions ran the gamut of tears, anger, frustration, anxiety, fear, and faith. I understand all of those emotions, and am encouraged by those whose faith hasn't been shaken.

The one thing that has puzzled me, both in 2008 and 2012, is the anger of Christians. Some statements about Obama and world events, at best, border on hatred for the President and certain ethnic groups, and the overriding thoughts I've seen are that we (Christians) have to fight, and fight hard, and be angry at The Enemy (Obama and Is*lam).

I've been in fundamental Baptist churches for almost 41 years. I've heard preachers all these 41 years say that God is going to judge America, has to judge America, and that we are in the end times, when all the prophecies in the Bible are beginning to come to pass. But now that it looks like God's judgment is beginning to fall, and the end time prophecies are becoming more and more clear, Christians are angry. They're angry that the President is doing things to set the stage for one-world government, to take away freedoms and persecute Bible-believing Christians, to gather against Israel. We've been expecting it . . . so why are we angry? Did we expect it to still be years in the future? Why are we angry over what we've been expecting for 40+ years?

I'm not saying we should lie down and die. I believe we should vote and make our voices heard, because we still have that right in America. We should stand for right on social issues, and we should do all we can to keep America free for our children and grandchildren. We should exercise our rights for as long as we have them.

What I am saying is that we should not be angry over the outcome of the election. Disappointed, yes; but angry? No. Why should we be angry if we truly believe that God has a great master plan for the ages, and He is bringing that plan to pass?! The voters of America did not surprise God by electing and re-electing Barack Obama; for whatever plan or reason, he is the man that God has ordained to be in office at this time.
"And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh." Luke 21:28

  1. Susan,

Thank you so much for this post. It is encouraging and inspiring. We know that God is in ultimate control and is working all things after the counsel of His own will. We know He is the One who sets up and takes down leaders. And as you said, we are aware of His plan for the end times. We can certainly take heart as we look to Him. Thanks for sharing your insight and perspective with your readers. You are a blessing!

    You are absolutely right, Susan.

I think what I feel is sadness and I feel like I'm mourning the death of someone that I loved. But I don't love her more than Jesus Christ, that's for sure.

  3. Susan,

An excellent article. May I share this with the church here in England in next month's church magazine?

    God bless you

  4. I so agree with your post. We even hear things like revolution or fighting and not necessarily from Christians.

God appoints authorities so I believe the same. The rapture could be near.

  5. I have been saying the same thing! People are trying to fight the end, but it's coming! It has to come to some generation of people, why not us? And yes, we have heard of the chastisement of God on our country, but now those same preachers are hating the president for being one of the tools to make that happen. IF we had not turned from God, this wouldn't happen. I'm trusting God and not our government. He will sustain me no matter what!
