It's been quite a few weeks since I've participated in Barbara's The Week in Words! This week I'm sharing two quotes that came through my email inbox via This Day's Thought.


The rule that governs my life is this:  Anything that dims my vision of Christ, or takes away my taste for Bible study, or cramps my prayer life, or makes Christian work difficult, is wrong for me, and I must, as a Christian, turn away from it.  This simple rule may help you find a safe road for your feet along life’s road.

I think I've read that one before, but it especially spoke to my heart this time. How often we have to pull back and take a look to see what things we need to turn away from - even good things - if they are hindering our walk with Christ. 

Do not, therefore, please yourself with thinking how piously you would act and submit to God in a plague, a famine, or persecution, but be intent upon the perfection of the present day, and be assured that the best way of showing a true zeal is to make little things the occasion of great piety.

I like to think I would be strong and faithful in a trial, but if I am not strong and faithful in little things every day, it's sure that I wouldn't be in trials!

    The first two are good advice and practical wisdom. Making sure we have our focus and priorities in place seems to need constant adjusting.

    It's been my experience that it takes constant adjusting, and that's not always easy to do. Takes vigilance!

Building An Effective Scripture Journal

Have you ever had a dream that you were witnessing to someone, and you turned to a familiar passage of Scripture, only to find it missing from your Bible? No matter how much you searched for it, it just wasn't there? No? Maybe I'm the only one who has had a dream like that, but maybe in real life, you've wondered where to find a certain Scripture for a specific problem, but you couldn't remember where to find it. Yes, there are concordances to look up key words, but it would be nice if you just had your own topical reference so you could look up Scripture passages that mean the most to you and the issues you face in daily life. I reviewed the book What Do I Know about My God? by Mardi Collier several weeks ago. I am convinced this is the best book I've ever read on making God and His Word real in your life. Mrs. Collier writes about getting to know God better through writing out Scripture verses that have to do with His character and attributes. Begin

Meet My Bible

I first saw this several months ago on Jessica's Journal , who found it at Amy's Place , and I knew I wanted to do it here. I'm just now getting to it. They don't call me the Queen of Procrastination for nothing! Please feel free to join me in this meme. If you do, leave a comment and let me know. I'd love to read about your Bible too! 1) How old is your Bible? Almost 9 years old; Wes gave it to me for my birthday in 2000. 2) Why did you choose this Bible? I wanted a wide-margin Bible so I could take sermon notes in it, and I wanted one with no notes or cross-references so I could make my own.
