Sunday in Review - July 5, 2009
We had a little bit smaller crowd in church yesterday. It's summertime, which means . . . vacations! Our people work hard at their jobs all year, so we absolutely support their one week of vacation each summer. We do miss them, though. Yesterday we had at least one family on vacation, and we missed a few others who may have been sick or had to work. The family who visited last week came back yesterday; it was so good to see them!
This seems to be birthday week at our church. We have 5 or 6 people celebrating brithdays this week, including our son, Andrew. Happy Birthday to each of you - we love you and thank the Lord that you are part of our church family!
In Sunday school, we made storms in bottles. Our lesson was about fear (next week we'll learn how to change fear to faith) and the Bible story was about Jesus' disciples being in the boat during a storm, while Jesus slept in the lower part of the ship. I filled 19-oz. water bottles 2/3 full of water. In class, we added salt, dishwashing liquid, and food coloring, then put the cap on, turned them upside down, and swished them round and round. When we stopped swishing, our bottles had little cyclones in them! I reminded the kids that the storm reminds us not to be afraid, and to remember that Jesus loves us and will take care of us even when we're afraid like the disciples were. Way fun!
I hope you all had a great day at church, too!
