A Birthday Card

This is a birthday card I made today for my niece. I used this tutorial from Stampin' Academy. I am hooked on this lady's tutorials! She makes cardmaking easy. I don't have a lot of stamps, so I just use my Hallmark Scrapbook Studio Deluxe graphics to make images, print them on cardstock, then mount them like I would a stamped image. It's not quite as much fun and versatile as stamping, but it works for me right now.

The background card is a deep purple; it looks dark blue in the pictures. I used some purple, pink and green patterned paper, and light purple and mint green cardstock to mat the image, which is popped up with pop dots. I thought it turned out really cute. The only problem is that my niece's birthday is tomorrow, all the way across the continent. So I don't think she'll get it on her birthday. Which is nothing new for my family. They're used to my sending things late or not at all.

  1. That's so pretty Susan!! You're so talented. Sometimes I think about stamping but then I dismiss it. Plus we can't get those cool thinggys here.
I'm sure your niece will be very happy with it.

  4. I love this design I can't wait to make one like it. I have a ton of stamps that I hardly ever use so this would be perfect. Thanks also for the link to the tutorial~I am saving it in my favorites.

    Great job

  6. Thank you for sharing! Your card looks GREAT! This is so cute. I still do not have a card for Sydney who will be 17 in the morning. Yikes. I just could not find anything I liked in the store. Now I know what I will be doing today.

  7. That's really cute! I haven't tried any kind of cut-out yet. I'll look up those tutorials.

I used to be so good about cards -- then they got later and later -- then sometimes I forget them completely.

  9. Hi Susan! I started reading your blog around the time you decided to cut back on your computer time...I see you are filling your time with creating some beautiful things!
I wanted to let you know that I posted a link to the family from our church that is on deputation to come to B.C. You can find them on my sidebar, under ministries....the Sweat family.

  11. Tori ~~ - not a bit of talent other than matching up colors! LOL I followed the tutorial. I have to have something or someone telling me exactly what to do for each step.

Mimi ~~ I may be there to see my niece before that card gets there! LOL I hope she'll like it; she is just 5 years old.

Nanny ~~ I'm glad you're enjoying my blogroll. I love to read blogs - a bit too much, in fact! ;)

Amy ~~ I think it would be so much fun to play with stamps! I have a few, but then I don't have many ways to color in the images, just a few colored pencils. And I'm not good at coloring things - not much imagination. Have fun!

Tammy ~~ She has bunches of tutorials for all kinds of things, even non-card things. I love the candy bar wraps, for instance. And the Tic Tac covers. And the notepads.

Theresa ~~ Thanks! I just love the design of the card. I plan to make more, just don't have time right now.

Margaret ~~ Tell Sydney Happy Birthday from us! Did you get a card made?!

Barbara ~~ I have never been good about cards! I enjoy making them, then forget to send them. I saw your post today about the hybrid cards - oh my! I'm going to have to try that - and use up all our ink! ;)

Elizabeth ~~ Stamps do look complicated, but every time I watch someone working with them, I just about die to try it. Just can't afford a bunch of them!

Deborah ~~ I will come by to look up that family. It would be fun to get to know them when they get out here!

Deby ~~ Thanks for the compliment! I hope you have fun following the links!
